Monofocal: Best clear vision at one distance.

Multifocal: Help see both near and far

EDOF Smooth range from arms length to distance.

What do you see clearly?

Monofocal: One range only - usually far away.

Multifocal: Near and far

EDOF: Far and intermediate (computer distance)

What may be blurry

Monofocal: Near and computer distance (if set for far)

Multifocal: Sometimes intermediate is a bit weaker.

EDOF: Very close small print

Possible downsides

Monofocal: Only one distance is sharp

Multifocal: Some people notice halos or glare at night

EDOF: Near vision not quite as strong as multifocal

Will I still need glasses?

Monofocal: Usually yes, for reading or screen work

Multifocal: Often less need for glasses

EDOF: Often less need for glasses
